1. Opinion (Synthesis/Evaluation) Question (Maximum Points 5)
To be a certified teacher-librarian in AZ, you must get a "school library media" endorsement on your teaching credential. You do that by holding teacher certification, having at least one year of classroom teaching experience, and taking the AEPA School Library Media test.

In the "old" days, when I was first certified, you had to have a master's degree. There was not a paper and pencil test. At other points in Arizona history, a varying number of graduate-level units in library science were required.

Given what you have learned so far in this course and in your master's in library science program, list five reasons why Arizona T-Ls should be required to take graduate-level course work that includes at least one course in school library administration. (1 point each comment that includes a reference - author and title is sufficient. At LEAST 3 of your references must be from this course. You may NOT use the same resource more than twice.)

2. Analysis Question (Maximum Points 5)
Several AM teams referred to school library Web sites as essential to promoting their library services. All Web sites, however, are not created equally well to serve the learning community.

Choose ONE of these two Canadian school library Web sites.

4. Synthesis Question (Maximum Points 5)
Education researcher Robert Marzano and his colleagues have identified instructional strategies that help students learn. (These strategies also increase student performance on standardized tests.) One of these strategies is recognizing and creating metaphors. The theory behind this practice is that metaphors provide learners with links that connect various parts of the brain.

Listen to the Metaphors for Collaborative Work. List five ways the Cathedral of Chartres story serves as a metaphor for classroom-library collaboration. If you choose, you can include one of my connections. (1 point each)

In IP2, teacher-librarians are charged with four main roles.

Simulation: Your school district is considering cutting professional teacher-librarian staff at the elementary level. You are the director of library services for your district and are preparing a presentation for the school board. You select ONE of the four main roles and build your presentation around that role.

Identify the role and give five compelling arguments (based on that role) as to why ALL teacher-librarian positions should be retained. (No more than two concise sentences for each one argument.) (1 point each)
