Dear (Principal's Name) and the Teacher-Librarian Interview Team,

Please accept this letter of interest and the attached résumé as support for my application for the position of teacher-librarian for (School Name). (Include two sentences that summarize your educational background and your prior teaching experience.)

A 21st-century school library is an exciting learning environment. It is a place where students and classroom teachers gather to access both the print and the electronic resources they need to meet state standards and to pursue independent learning goals. As your teacher-librarian, I will collaborate with classroom teachers to plan, teach, and evaluate lessons and units of instruction that integrate information literacy, technology, and critical thinking skills into the classroom curriculum. Research shows that student achievement increases when teacher-librarians collaborate with classroom teachers for instruction.

In order to be successful in school and in life, today's students must learn to locate, access, utilize, and evaluate information. It is the responsibility of the teacher-librarian to teach and support all the members of the school community as they navigate the research process, including developing inquiry questions, searching the library catalog, databases and the Web, evaluating resources, notemaking, organizing information, and learning product production. My particular areas of expertise are (examples: Web site evaluation and/or search strategies, Web-authoring, PowerPoint, video production, etc.). I will teach these lifelong learning skills and strategies in collaboration with classroom teachers at the point they are needed by students to meet curricular goals.

The vibrant library program I envision for (School Name) also encourages reading to meet educational and personal needs. Developing students' love of literature and increasing their reading skills is an important part of what I do. I will support these efforts through booktalks and literacy projects and events that invite students to grow as readers and thinkers.

As your teacher-librarian, I will reach out into the school community and create with you a library program that is a vital part of students' education. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you and the interview team about the many ways I can help (School Name) achieve its learning goals for students, teachers, and the community.

Sincerely,
(Your Name)
