LRC 585: Literature for Adolescents Facilitator: Judi Moreillon |
An experiential class involves hands-on, active learning on the part of the students and the facilitator. Weekly literature circles in which you will share your personal responses to your reading of young adult literature and discuss the issues raised in the texts are the central learning experience of this course. Class attendance and participation are critical components.
It is expected that you will make every effort to attend class, arrive on time, and come prepared. More than one absence and/or chronic tardiness, leaving early, or taking "breaks" during class time will lower your grade. A weekly literature book and reference book/professional article response will prepare you for class participation. We will negotiate class/individual learning experiences.
If you must miss a class, please let me know - in advance, if possible. Make arrangements to speak with me before or after class to discuss your plans for keeping up with the class, and we will negotiate an additional assignment to attempt to compensate for the information you missed. If you are ill, please email me promptly, and we can negotiate electronically.
Your contribution to the class is essential. With the goal of developing our
understanding of multiple responses to literature, we cannot benefit from your
perspective if you are not present.
In this classroom, everyone is a student; everyone is a teacher.
