LRC 585: Literature for Adolescents
Spring 2006

Facilitator: Judi Moreillon

Author, Illustrator, Poet, or Genre/Specifal Topic Study

Link to Project 1 and Project 2 Choices - Spring 2006

This project is designed to be a partner project.

The goals of this project are to make connections between the author/artist's life and work and to develop personal favorites among young adult book creators. As you read YA lit, look for a poet, an author, or an illustrator with whom you have a strong connection or in whom you have intense interest. Before you gather a collection of that person's work, share you choice with the facilitator and find a classmate with whom to do this project. Locate information about that person using literary reference materials.

If you give the class enough notice, you can ask us to read a particular title, a selection from your author/illustrator/poet, or in the genre/topic of your study.

We will conduct a whole-class author study centered on the work of Jacqueline Woodson. This will be a model for your project.

On February 23rd, you and your partner will sign-up for a presentation date. Click here for the Author/Illustrator/Poet Study Rubric Assessment.

Genre Study

The genre study should be multi-faceted. In addition to sharing the information found in our class reference (or other reference) book, include your experiences or information about using this genre with students in classrooms and libraries. If possible, include actual student work. Involve the class in your presentation through a hands-on experience as well. With enough notice, you can give the class an assignment to read a book, an article, or to do a project in preparation for the class. These are some possibilities for genre studies. Your study must focus on adolescent literature.

Historical Fiction
