LRC 480: Children's Literature in the Classroom
Section 6
Spring 2002

Facilitator: Judi Moreillon

Online Global Classroom:

The purpose of this learning experience is to extend our class inquiry into issues of immigration to include the perspectives of our sister class at Northwestern Michigan College. You will work with a small group of Arizona students and begin by emailing me two sentences about yourself. Along with a photograph of your group, your brief autobiography will be posted as a link off our Polis Web Page. Ms. Tatarchuk, the course instructor in Michigan, will offer you a virtual space to post a more in-depth autobiography. I hope all of you will consider this an opportunity to get to build community with our sister class.

Our online discussions will begin on February 6th. Your group will respond to questions posted by the course facilitators and/or to responses posted by our Michigan classmates. The discussions will continue based on your input. All postings will be accomplished in small groups and during class time: February 6, 13, 20, 27, and March 6. In order to prepare your responses, you will, however, be asked to read postings outside of class time.

One of our discussion forums will involve developing questions to ask Pam Muñoz Ryan, the author of Esperanza Rising. In collaboration with fifth-grade students from Van Buskirk Elementary School and our sister class in Michigan, we will post questions to Ms. Ryan.

You are, of course, invited and encouraged to create a new discussion forum and post your questions, concerns, and comments at any time during the semester.
