LRC 480: Children's Literature in the Classroom
Section 6
Spring 2002

Facilitator: Judi Moreillon

Class Immigration Inquiry/Conference Project:

There are many goals for this project. One is to experience a month-long inquiry project that integrates picture book and novel-length fiction, informational books, poetry, newspaper articles, online discussions, and an author interview. Another goal of this project is for you to share your inquiry experience and a sample of your work at a professional development conference.

Much of the work on this project will be accomplished in class. One person in each group will take the facilitator role and earn class job credit for organizing the group's work and presenting it at the conference. Each inquiry group will also create a visual to share at the conference. Some parts or all of this visual display may have to be accomplished outside of class time. Group grades will be given. Groups can earn up to 50 points for this experience. We will develop a rubric for this project as a class.

Make your plans early in the semester and register for the Conference before the deadline. Everyone is expected to attend the Conference.

The Conference on Literature and Literacy for Children and Adolescents on March 2, 2002. The cost for full-time students is $15.00. There is an additional charge of $7.50 for lunch. If you cannot arrange to participate in this conference, an alternative professional development experience will be assigned by the course facilitator. You must receive your alternative assignment by January 30, 2002.

You will reflect on this learning experience in two ways. Your group will post a reflection on Polis to be shared with our sister class, and there will be a conference question on your Midterm Reflection.
