Evidence-based Practice (Research/Practice Articles on Technology-Supported Education):

Big6 Information Literacy Newsletter: The Big6 is an information literacy/research process. The newsletter contains articles written by researchers and practitioners.

enGauge: The North Central Regional Laboratory Web site for technology integration contains the results of research studies in science, math, and writing in the "resources" section.

From Now On: Jamie McKenzie is a nationally-known speaker on effective uses of technology for instruction as well as other issues related to teaching and learning.

In Time: Technology as a Facilitator of Learning: This scholarly paper written by William P. Callahan and Thomas J. Switzer College of Education, University of Northern Iowa provides a compelling view of the use of technology tools to motivate and empower learners.

Partnership for Twenty-First Century Skills: A coalition of business and educational concerns are developing a curriculum based on their researcch.

Reading Online: This section is called the "Electronic Classroom."

Teach Net: This is an extensive article on the one-computer classroom.

Technology Standards and Rubrics for Student Learning:

Accessible Technologies for All Students: This Web site promotes the equitable use of technology by special education students. This site includes case studies of successful practices, publications, and links to other resources to "increase individualization of education through the greater range of technologies offered" to all students.

ISTE: National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS*S): This site includes student standard, a searchable database of lessons/units, workshop guides for technology trainers, and more.

The following are rubrics (pdf files) developed by the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL). All of these documents are in draft form pending feedback from educators and revision by NCREL.

Technology Standards Classroom Teachers:

ISTE: National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T): This site includes the standards themselves and the NETS*T book, which offers ideas for integrating technology into the curriculum.

This pdf file rubric. developed by the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL), can help teachers choose technology goals based on their own level of expertise (notice, basic, proficient, or advanced). Remember: when you collaborate with a more technology-proficient colleague (classroom teacher, teacher-librarian, or technology specialist), you can raise your level of expertise by designing curriculum collaboratively. The ZPD works for adults, too!
