Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport
Book Review:
This comical book is beautifully written by Majorie Weinman Sharmat
and illustrated by Byron Barton. This book follows a little boy who
is about to make a big move from the eastern United States to the West.
This book addresses stereotypes and misconceptions we often make about
people from different parts of the U. S. The illustrations are beautifully
hand drawn with a great use of color. This "Reading Rainbow "choice
book is good fun and delicately deals with issues of children's fears
about moving. A great theme and connection for any project to accompany
or follow this book would be that even though people may live in different
places and seem just a little bit different, we are more alike than
we often realize or appreciate.
