Way Out West Lives a Coyote Named Frank, written and illustrated
by Jillian Lund, is set in a Southwestern desert. Frank and
his other coyote friends Larry and Melanie create havoc with the reptiles
and other smaller animals in the desert. This short, lively story takes
the reader on an adventure with them as they chase, bother, and dig
up the smaller animals' houses. The reader is invited to join with Frank
in his daily activities where he learns lessons like staying away from
The large illustrations show "cool" Frank in his sunglasses along with
his friends in colorful handkerchiefs. Every page is bright and shows
the beautiful features of the Southwest. Each page also has a picture
of Frank doing what he likes in the desert, and ending with him howling
at the moon in a beautiful Southwest night scene.
I recommend this book for children in kindergarten through second grade.
