LRC 480/580: Children's Literature in the Classroom
Section 7
Fall 2003

Facilitator: Judi Moreillon

Reading Records Assessment:

The total number of points possible for this learning experience is: 130 points.

Each Reading Record Tracking Sheet (3) is worth: 10 points
(to be assessed when all 100 reading records and 3 tracking sheets are turned in to the course facilitator)

  • 4 points for filling out the number of books, chapter/picture book classification, and genre tracking.
  • 4 points for filling out the diversity section.
  • 2 points for thoughtful comments to the course facilitator.

Students will earn one point for every complete and thoughtful reading record. The total points possible for books read is 100.

Samples of complete reading records are provided for you in the Course Packet. A point is given for each reading record provided it is complete and thoughtful. It is possible that a student could read 100 books but not get full credit because his or her reading records are not his or her best work.

Note: The student is expected to follow up on suggestions made by the course facilitator in her comments or suggestions made in the chapter outlines. How students address these suggestions should be evident in the second, and third tracking sheets. (Post-it notes will be used to identify the titles that satisfy this part of the assignment.) Students will receive full credit for their tracking sheets only if they read widely for diversity of both genre and content, if they read at least fifteen chapter books/novels, and if they read suggested titles or books by suggested authors.
