Author, Illustrator, or Poet Study Rubric Assessment
The total number of points possible for this learning experience is:
50 points.
The handout (due November 13th) is worth 20 points:
- 6 points for 5 annotations and complete bibliographic entries for
5 book titles.
- 6 points for summary of person's life and connections to his/her
work.
- 4 points for a minimum of 3 reference resources used to locate information
on the person. (At least, one source must be non-Web-based.)
- 4 points for bringing a copy for your classmates and for me on your
presentation date.
The visual used to support the presentation is worth 10 points:
- 4 points for clarity and organization.
- 4 points for appropriateness for age-level of students to whom this
work will appeal.
- 2 points for book examples to support visuals, presentation, and/or
hand-out.
The presentation is worth 15 points:
- 5 for presenting the summary of the person's life/work.
- 5 points for personal response to the person's work.
- 5 points for sharing a piece of his/her writing/art and/or including
some form of listener participation.
The email self-reflection (individual) is worth 5 points.
The course facilitator will email these questions to you.
It is due within one week after the presentation. Use these focusing questions
to guide your personal reflection.
- Why did you select this person for your study and what you found especially
interesting or surprising about him/her?
- Describe your research process.
- How did learning about the person influenced your response to her/his
work?
- In your opinion, what is the value of an author/illustrator/poet study
in classrooms and/or school/public libraries?
- What was your contribution to the project, and what was your experience
of the partnership? (If you worked alone, you cannot earn this point.)
