Electronic Resources:

Through Sabio and Web Sites

From Sabio:

You can go to the Literature Resource Center to locate biographies, book reviews, and/or articles written by or about your author. (Of course not all children's book authors are represented here.)

The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is another good bet for finding articles written by or about better known authors.

Online Resources:

The Children's Literature Web Guide
This site contains links to authors' and illustrators' Web pages. It is maintained by David Brown of the University of Calgary.

Vandergrift's Children's Literature Page
This site has fewer links to author/illustrator sites than The Children's Literature Web Guide. However, it does have excellent commentary by Kay Vandergrift, a former teacher-librarian who teaches at Rutgers University. Navigate around this site for information on print and video resources for learning about children's book authors and illustrators, the history of children's literature, censorship issues, and much more.

Index to Children's and Young Adult's Authors and Illustrators
This is the Internet School Library Media Center Index to author and illustrator Internet sites. For selected authors/illustrators, there are "teacher resource files" which may include interviews, lessons plans, links to publishers, and critical reviews.

Linda's Links to Literature
This site was created by Linda Bendall, a school district library coordinator in Richmond, Virginia. Entries for each title include one or more of the following: booktalks, extension ideas, quizzes, teachers' guides,Web links, lesson plans, and more.

Murrieta School District
This California school district has a great children's book author/illustrator online resource index.

Newbery Medal Home Page
Maintained by the American Library Association, you can access information about this year's medal and honor book winning authors.

Caldecott Medal Home Page
Like the Newbery Medal Web site, this one contains information about this year's Caldecott-winning illustrators.

Children's Book Council
Enter this site as a teacher/librarian, and you will find interviews with the author/illustrator of the month and archives of past contributors.
