Rubric Scoring for Heritage Poem - Total Possible Points: 50
Your Literacy Memory will be assessed using the Six Traits writing rubric.
Each trait is worth five points. (30 points possible)
- Ideas - What is the heart of your piece? Is the message clear?
Does your poem include 4-6 snapshots of your literacy history?
- Organization - Does your piece have an internal structure?
- Voice - Can the reader "hear" the voice of the writer in the
piece?
- Word Choice - Does the writer use appropriate and descriptive
vocabulary and/or terminology?
- Sentence Fluency - Is there a rhythm and flow to the piece?
- Conventions - Are the grammar and spelling correct?
Your literacy timeline is due on September 4th. (5 points)
A complete draft of your Heritage Poem is due on September 11th. We
will share our poems in a small group and partner edit our work in class on
that day. (5 points)
Your edited and illustrated Heritage Poem is due on September 18th.
In addition, your poem must be presented in this format:
- Font size - 12 or 14-point font.
- Spacing and Length - single or 1.5 spacing and one page
only.
- Authorship/Title - a title and your name must appear on the
piece.
- Illustrate your poem in some way. (10 points)
