Young moms and babies from Pima County Public Library's
Project L.I.F.T. (Literacy Involves Families Together) posed with
me and their signed copies of my book, Read
to Me/Vamos a leer, which is a poem I originally wrote for
this project. The book is now the centerpiece of the "Books for Texas Babies." This initiative began in 2016 with "Books for Dallas Babies" giving away 14,000 copies of the book to mothers of newborns. Tarrant County started a similar project in 2017.
I serve on the Advisory Board for School Library Connection, a magazine for school librarians. I authored a feature article for each issue in the first volume of this publication. I continue to write for the magazine.
I am on the Board of Advisors of Worlds of Words: International Collection of Children's and Adolescent Literature (WOW). The physical collection is housed at the University
of Arizona. I serve on the editorial board for WOW Stories.
I serve as the chair for the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Innovative Approaches to Literacy Task Force. I am also a member of AASL's Interdivisional Task Force on School and Public Library Collaboration.
I have recently completed my term as chair of the Editorial Advisory Committee for Children and Libraries, the journal for the Association for Library Services to Children.
