I am the author of two professional books for school librarians, classroom teachers, and literacy coaches. The focus of the books is using coteaching approaches to teach reading comprehension strategies. The books include standards-based sample lesson plans that highlight ways to lower the student-teacher ratio at the point of instruction. The lessons also integrate research-based instructional strategies. Collaborative Strategies for Teaching Reading Comprehension: Maximizing Your Impact (2007) will be replaced with Coteaching Reading Comprehension Strategies in Elementary School Libraries: Maximizing Your Impact in summer 2013.

I am also a published children's book author. My second book (written for families), Read to Me/Vamos a leer, is available in English, Spanish, bilingual Spanish-English, and Vietnamese in hardcover and board book formats from Star Bright Books (January 2004). My first children's picture book, Sing Down the Rain (Kiva Publishing, 1997), is in its third printing. My third children's book is will be available from Eerdman's Books for Young Readers in August 2013.

Author and Storyteller School Visits

I authored and illustrated the Sabino Canyon: The Web of Life Web Site and facilitated the work of preservice educators and graduate students on the Southwest Children's Literature Web Site.

I maintain a poetry page with samples of my own poetry and poems students have written. It also includes poetry resources for educators.

I conduct research on issues related to classroom-library collaboration. My curriculum vitae lists my professional publications.

As an educator, poet, and storyteller - I am always on the trail of new stories...
